Conservation Mentor: Noreen Thomas, Doubting Thomas Farms, Senior Fellow at University of Minnesota

Noelle Harden is a University of Minnesota Extension Educator, gardener, and pollinator advocate. In 2020, she received a permit from Moorhead to plant one of the city's first "boulegardens" (boulevard garden) and a Lawn-to-Legumes grant, which she used to establish a backyard pollinator paradise. Noelle will share her personal experiences and highlight the ways that all of us can help pollinators thrive in our yards, neighborhoods, and communities.

Karin Jokela is a pollinator conservation specialist with the Xerces Society. She collaborates with NRCS staff in Minnesota and Wisconsin to provide individual consulting to farmers on habitat restoration and biodiversity conservation, and serves as an adviser to staff of other conservation organizations. Karin received her M.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Iowa State University. She and her husband also steward land near Cannon Falls, MN, where they have managed a variety of enterprises, including organic vegetables, a native plant nursery, Kernza, and small ruminant livestock, among others. Biodiversity cultivation is a central tenet of their operation.

Noreen Thomas is a well-know innovative conservation farmer at Doubting Thomas Farms in Moorhead. She's a Senior Fellow at University of Minnesota, working with beginning farmers. Noreen is also the North West Region Network Coordinator for MNWiC.
